Initial Design Consultation

The Initial Design Consultation is the first step in turning your interior design dreams into reality. During this meeting, I will meet with you to understand your vision, needs, and goals for your space. Together we will discuss your functional needs, style, colour preferences, and any specific ideas you may have in mind. This is also a good place to show me your favourite design photos, mood boards, and Pinterest if you have it!

This consultation is the foundation for your entire design project, we won’t leave any stone unturned and I will answer any questions you may have. Whether you're embarking on a full-scale renovation or only seeking guidance on a single room, this consultation provides a valuable opportunity to tap into my expertise to get your project started. As this is a working session, there is a $250 initial consultation fee.

Design Concept

Upon signing of the contract, your Design Concept will be brought to life! This stage refines the vision into a unique concept with preliminary floor plans, mood boards, colour palettes and material samples. These are presented in a new meeting at your home (or virtual) to confirm the plan and provides me with guidance for the subsequent steps to come.

Once I get approval on the design direction I move into more detailed design choices. Now is a good point to add on more services which will take your project to the next level, such as more rooms, millwork, furniture, and styling. Additional charges will apply.

Design Development

In the design development phase, detailed drawings of the concept are developed into a full design package including all necessary floor plans such as demo, new revised floor plans, lighting, electrical, plumbing, finishing and millwork plans. Overall elevations will give a comprehensive view of each wall with detailed notes highlighting key architectural features. 3D visuals/models may be created here to showcase layout and material options. Following the detailed drawings, specification meetings are conducted for selecting and finalizing all furniture, finishes, equipment, and materials as required.

Construction + Design Implementation

It’s time for construction which can be a lengthy process, but don’t worry, I’m here every step of the way! Executing an elevated design involves reviewing the space to identify and eliminate mistakes, flaws, and costly change orders. My construction experience conducting site visits and working in older buildings has given me a keen eye to spot problems before they arise. As construction continues, I aid with overall project management, contractor support, and crucial-decision site visits.

Once construction is complete, I oversee all furniture and accessory installation and finish up with some styling for the cherry on top. I do one final walkthrough with the contractor to ensure everything looks absolutely perfect. Then comes the fun part - the reveal, welcome home!

Documentation + Specification Package

The documentation of the design development and specifications are mendaciously detailed in the design package and finished with a meeting for client approval. Every part of your project is laid out and explained for comprehension and questions. Next, I complete the Fixtures and Finishes schedule for your contractor. This will include completed final interior drawings and elevations for pricing purposes.

For local projects only: I coordinate with your builder and their trades to ensure the vision is clear and expectations are exceeded. Don’t have a contractor yet? Let’s find one together!

For virtual projects only: This is the end of the road for us! Once I have your final approvals, I work on creating a shopping list for you to find a builder, purchase and install at your own pace. I hand off your document to you and wait to see the completed project photos!

Please note: This document is only valid for one year after delivery. Your project must be started within one year of final documentation. The longer you wait to start your project, items may go out of stock and additional charges will apply for sourcing new Items or changing plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process for working with megan duffy interiors?

The process starts with an initial 1.5 hour consultation to understand your needs, vision and project scope. Following this, I create a design plan, which includes concept development, design drawings, and material selections. I then manage the project through implementation, ensuring everything aligns with your vision.

What is the difference between Full-Service Interior Design and Virtual Interior Design?

Full-Service Interior Design involves in-person consultations, project management, and hands-on installation. Virtual Interior Design provides remote consultations and design plans, allowing you to implement the recommendations on your own.

Why/When should I hire an interior designer?

Consider hiring an interior designer when you need professional guidance to enhance the functionality or aesthetic of a space, whether it's for a new build, renovation, or simply updating your current décor. Interior designers do more than just picking colours, we are space planners and visionaries, trained to make the design function best for your needs.

How long does a typical design project take?

The duration of a design project varies depending on its complexity and scale. Generally, design projects can range from a few weeks to several months or years. I will provide a more accurate timeline during the initial consultation.

How much will it cost for design services?

The cost varies based on the scope and scale of the project. I offer both Full-Service and Virtual Interior Design options, each with its own pricing structure. For Full-Service Designs and Furniture + Styling, I charge an hourly rate. For Virtual Designs I offer a room-by-room fee. Please contact me for a personalized quote.

What is your design style?

My design style merges timeless elegance with contemporary craftsmanship. I love clean lines, natural light, and organic/earthy materials, creating spaces that are both functional and aesthetically captivating. My designs blend classic charm with modern sophistication to produce environments that stand the test of time.

Can you work with me if my project is not on Vancouver Island?

Yes, I offer virtual interior design services that allows me to work with clients beyond Vancouver Island. I can assist with design plans, recommendations, and sourcing, regardless of location.

How do I know which service is right for me?

If you prefer a hands-on approach and comprehensive project management, Full-Service Interior Design is ideal. If you seek flexibility and can manage the implementation yourself, Virtual Interior Design may be more suitable. If you just need a bit of advice re-imagining new pieces for you space, I suggest the Furniture + Styling Package. Give me a call or send an email to learn more!
